This month we'll work on our leadership skills.
Early Bird Activity: See The World From an Ant's Perspective. Lie on your belly and notice: How do things look from here? What do you notice that you didn't see when standing up? Imagine you are an ant. What would you like to explore - a blade of grass, a pebble, a fallen leaf?
Draw a picture of what your world would look like if you were an ant, or the size of an ant.
We'll split the groups up, to start working on individual meetings.
Starflight
The younger children will be working on their personal leadership, through identifying ways they can help out at home. Parent leaders (need volunteers) will ask the children to name some jobs they do at home to help their families. After brainstorming and discussing these jobs and how we feel and how our families feel, the children will pick 5 jobs and write or draw pictures of them on 5 cards.
The group will make little pockets for these cards to be stored in, and hung up at home. When they want to say thank you, they can pick a job to do, or make a plan with a parent about when to do their jobs.
Time permitting, we'll play a game where the kids act out a job they can do at home and the rest of the group can guess what it is they're acting out.
Adventure
The children will work on the planning process. We'll read a story together about leading & brainstorming. We'll talk about how there is planning done for our Camp Fire meetings and talk about ways the Adventure kids can help plan the group activity for next month. We can then lead a brainstorming session about activities that the group can lead the younger kids in - whether it be a craft or game that they think the kids would enjoy learning and that they would enjoy leading and teaching the younger kids in.
Explain that we will be getting together again before the next month's meeting to plan everything out so they will be successful.
Open up discussion about their feelings about taking on this new responsibility.
Time permitting: a movement game
Potluck, closing circle/song.
