May 2014 - Trail to the Future
Our group met at Kate Sessions Park and learned about kites. First we built a basic sled kite. Then we made modifications to the kite to make it fly better and wrote down our observations.
The Early Bird Activity was a paper airplane activity.
Starflight/Adventure followed same meeting plan, in Adventure curriculum: Things that Fly, p. 210

April 2014 - Trail to Family and Community
Our group met at Christina's home and made a bunch of items for donation to the Humane Society. We made dog biscuits, tug/chew toys, small animal snackers, toilet rolls filled w/alfalfa, & decorated bandanas for dogs to wear.
Two weeks later, we met at the Humane Society and got a brief tour and dropped off our donations.

March 2014 - Trail to Creativity
We had a guest speaker, an actress, come meet us at the Library. We reserved a room for use (free), as it was rainy that day.
We watched the show she was prominently on, and then she talked about improve, mostly. We played some different improve games and did some acting with puppetry.
Meal: No meal, no food allowed in the library.

Adventure - Improvise This! p. 140

February 2014 - Trail to the Environment
We learned about Geology at this meeting.
Guest speaker talked about earthquakes, brought a great example machine.
Different stations had activities:
- Birthstones, find yours, find the colors of the different ones, color them.
- sedimentary rock example, using white bread & a big, heavy rock to flatten it
- cooking an egg on a rock
- one more which is escaping me. Had something to do with sulfur.
Meal: potatoes. (they look like rocks) Bring something to put on your potato!
Starflight/Adventure: Same plan, from Adventure curriculum.Gems & Rocks, p. 178

January 2014 - Trail to Knowing Me/Trail to the Future
This meeting took place over the weekend during our camping trip at William Heise Campground. It was very relaxed & low-key.
We taught the kids whittling - starting with soap bars. We also built the letterbox boxes. We did a communication meeting, and worked on teambuilding. We made a "friendship web" using yarn.
Group meal was Spaghetti/pasta dinner.

December 2013 - Trail to Creativity
In December we learned about accidental art by making gifts to give to our loved ones. There were 6 stations that the children could move through making different items.
1. water color gift tags
2. marble-rolling in paint wrapping paper
3. ink drop coasters
4. fabric-decorated art frames, plus one of our parents took each child outside individually for their own photo which was emailed to the parent to place in the frame
5. make & take granola
6. flower transfers on fabric - which could either be used as gift wrap or art itself.
meal : Soup & Salad bar.
Need to figure out how to make it clear that these are gifts. Idea! Perhaps we discuss before beginning and make a list of the people we want to make gifts for...?
MAYBE! We open this up to other clubs who can come for a nominal fee ($5-$8?) to make gifts too, and use to help the club do some group activity (water park, overnight trip, etc) - a club funding activity...?!
